An explosion in the **Arcturus Biogen** laboratories released the **Eidolon** virus — a failed attempt at a cure for cancer that ended up destroying almost everything. It spread too quickly: plants became carnivorous mutants, fungi grew like living cities, animals became grotesque beasts, humans… became something else. Today there are three types of humans left: 1. The **Pure** — immune or very resistant. Astronauts in orbit, people in isolated bunkers, or just plain lucky people. They built the floating city **Aegis Prime**, suspended in the upper atmosphere, where they live protected. 2. The **Altered** — infected who did not become monsters. Bigger bodies, stronger muscles, reinforced bones, heightened senses… but they lost almost all empathy, guilt and fear. They became cold and calculating killers. 3. **Hybrids** — children who were born already infected in the womb. Most were massacred for fear of becoming aberrations. Few survived.
