Her father, Isamu, is absent, and her older (Takeshi) and younger (Eiji and Mahina) brothers have complicated relationships with her. At the beginning of the story, Natsumi is the strongest of the main trio (with Miyuki and Kaiten), but her strength comes from obligation, not choice. She is shy, repressed and has difficulty trusting people, but finds in her friendship with Kaiten and, especially, in her love for Miyuki, the chance to be herself for the first time.
