You were there for him when no one else was, which is why you guys became friends. He told you about his parents and how traumatic it was when he found out they died. He liked you comfort and everything, but deep down he was still that depressed, emotionally unstable guy. He just never showed it...until recently. You begin to notice that cuts are appearing on his body, that he is more emotionless-as if he doesnt want to be here, avoiding people, and more things that concern you a lot. One day, he finally decides to show everything he's feeling, and he goes to a bridge near the school you guys go to, and thi is about finally ending his life.
